At the end of that story, Stephen James Joyce, the writer's grandson, added in a PS: "We never had any trouble in understanding each other." This cat lands us in another story, by James Joyce this time: "The Cat and the Devil". The heroes of the book are the Whale, the Camel, the Rhinoceros, the Leopard, the Elephant, the Kangaroo, the Hedgehog, the Turtle, the Crab, the Butterflyand one more: the Cat. This is a book about " the big secret of the world"whose name is "soundpictures". It all happened "once upon a most early time", when, with " 'satiable curtiosity", the "firstest" story teller invented a tale for the world to come. Among these words, some have been invented or adapted by Kipling to his needs, and this operation strongly reminds the reader of Lewis Carroll and Jonathan Swift, among others.
